Welcome To Gilda And Meek And The Un-Iverse!

My name is Matt Zimmer and I have created a crudely drawn comic book (mostly in the pencil stage) and I have drawn over 50 issues at this point. I will be posting them all on this blog.

What is Gilda And Meek about?

It's about several things at once. It's a story of a Lucky Universe in a Multiverse teeming with Unlucky Ones and how our hero navigates that to her own advantage. It's a funny animal book that bit by bit reveals a huge fantasy and science fiction underpinning, much like Bone. It starts off as an erstwhile comedy until you realize it's actually been a drama the entire time. It's a story that after you read all 90 issues, you'll want to reread them again, as the best reading of The Un-Iverse isn't the first, it's the second. It's a bunch of random and seemingly unrelated characters and stories building and crossing over until they collide in an epic 19-part finale. It's about the antagonistic and loving relationship between the hero Gilda and the kid who looks up to her, Bernadette, and how their feelings for each other prove there is no wrong way to love a person. It's a political satire parodying the ridiculousness of the age we live in made more ridiculous by the fact that real life is crazier than my story's outlandish examples. It's about the fact that evil is uncool and mundane, and it's neat to have heroes to like and root for, and where the heroes are more interesting than the villains. It's about a strong female hero whose gender is irrelevant to the story at hand and is merely a strong hero who happens to be a female. It's about all of these things and none of them at the same time. Mostly, it's a way for me to work through my psychological crap. Which is what I think most writing boils down to for people.

Check it out.

Author's Note:

The Un-Iverse is structured as a novel and meant to be read in order in its entirety. Admittedly, some of the other titles in this collection are not as good as the main title "Gilda And Meek", but you have to get through some of it you don't like to further enjoy the stuff you do. The Un-Iverse is a story that pays off for people in the long run and for people with the patience to stick through it.

A great deal of The Un-Iverse is outright terrible. That is by design. I reasoned that I had a couple of options in getting a negative reaction from the reader: I could either make some of the stories annoy the reader a bit, or routinely kill off a bunch of characters for shock value. I like the first idea better. But parts of The Un-Iverse are not meant to be enjoyed, but endured. And those things you didn't like the first time around will seem a bit awesome and clever in hindsight once you've finished the 92nd issue.

"You'll thank me later." -- Adrian Monk.

There is stuff here you probably won't dig. But you can't just read the Stu and Frannie chapters of The Stand and consider that a great book. Stephen King's epic is best when read as a (gigantic) whole. Same goes for The Un-Iverse. Not saying it's as great as The Stand. But you DO need to wade through a LOT of stuff you don't necessarily like at first but seems great afterwards when viewed as part of the entire story.

Here is the list of titles. Each title is a link to the comic in question. No cheating and reading ahead to get spoilers. I'll give you SUCH a hairy eyeball.
