Author's Note for Gilda And Meek #30 "All Blood Things...: Step Four: The Return Of Everybody" (Un-Iverse #44)

This remains one of my best issues, and though I think the stuff with Otterman drags a bit, I feel as long as the rest of the issue is, it feels kind of perfect otherwise.

And still my favorite thing is Gilda finding out the real reason Bernadette hates Hank. Like the joke of Vic telling Powder that in HIS Administration God answers to HIM, this was not always an intended facet to the characters or something I planned to reveal someday. But once I figured it out, it feels like it couldn't have ever been anything else. I am very happy my characters were led here. The moment isn't just hilarious, but it feels truthful for that reason as well.

Notice something interesting about each Part of "All Blood Things..."? Each part is a different aspect of the final battle that takes place. "What Ben Franklin Said" is the shit hitting the fan. "Marker" is both the heroes and the villains working through the shit they need to. "Late Night Conversations And Other Equally Important Occurrences" is the Calm Before The Storm. This issue are the Final Battle Plans and literally everything being set into place. And the next issue "The Sword Of Wisdom" is a nearly nonstop action set-piece. What intriguing about this structure to me is that each time the story transitions into a different phase is the EXACT moment I hit each cliffhanger, so the intentions behind the individual parts seem shockingly clear in that respect. The NEXT Un-Iverse finale ("The Terran Wars") will have a LOT of story shifting cliffhangers as well, but those will be genuine story shifts instead of an actual difference in narrative intention. The deliberateness of how I structured these things (the cliffhanger to this one comes RIGHT before the final battle) makes the story seem far better and more professionally written than it is. It's almost like I know what I'm doing. In reality, random luck had a LOT to do with it than any narrative perfection there.

Next Issue: Gilda and Meek #31 "All Blood Things...: Step Five: The Sword of Wisdom" (Un-Iverse #45)
