Here is the site progress for our clean-up!
Goals:
Cleaning up typos and mistakes, and changing every instance of Unkie Matty to Unkie Natty. Not ALL typos will be fixed (a bunch will not even be caught) but that's okay because as established in Lace Doilies "Silent, But Deadly" the typos are actually canon, whether I fix some of them or not.
What will NOT be cleaned up:
The messed up page numbers in the earlier issues. WAY too big a chore with no benefit. Worse, if I decide to do a Special Edition later on all that work would be meaningless. The wrong page numbering is just a mistake we will have to learn to live with.
Formatting of this entry:
Before the site clean-up became the massive undertaking it did, I simply added each day's work onto the end of the post. It will be easier to follow if the latest updates are at the top, so I cleaned up this post too!

In my deep dive site clean-up, I have started to seriously fix things in the saga that make me unhappy.
Weirdly enough, it's stopped merely being about fixing typos and misspellings. For my latest go-through of Gilda And Meek "Don't Logic Santa" I did something nuts.
I colored all of the Christmas decorations.
I had to rescan a LOT of the issue because there was so much color I added. The coloring itself looks sloppy (which is appropriate because the rest of the issue does too). But I felt it might be cool to give the reader a sense of the color and wonder Gilda actually sees at Christmas, and sort of demonstrate in a visual manner WHY it is magical for her.
I deliberately declined to color Santa and his outfit. Whatever magic Christmas holds for Gilda, The Un-Iverse's Santa will always be outside of it. Considering how deeply Santa wound up loving Gilda as the saga went on, it's a really sad thing if you get right down to it. But yeah, Gilda's faith in Christmas has nothing to do with him. Not saying he and Gilda won't reconnect under better circumstances later on, but right now, the color of Gilda's world belongs to Christmas, NOT Santa. For her, they are two entirely separate things.
Shit like this is why I am STRONGLY resisting the idea of making colored / inked Special Editions of all of the rest of the issues before The Terran Wars. Stuff like that wouldn't play anymore.

This one is pretty huge and you might want to check it out. I finessed some of the Narrator's dialogue discussing Otterman killing the Piranhas to fit into the upcoming Terran Wars issue "Lights Out". You'll notice the Narrator does a LOT less defending of Otterman's mindset and moral innocence, and the hedging being entirely gone ought to worry you. I felt like "Lights Out" is a reckoning for Otterman's actual sins. I decided to go back and make the Narrator's opinions more ambiguous and less biased in favor of Otterman.
I also changed Otterman's expression from eager to worried as he goes into the jungle.
In a LOT of ways, this stuff changes the entire issue. Honestly, after I have the put an issue to paper I have almost NEVER gone back and changed such a huge thing in an issue unless it was a Special Edition. The only similar huge hindsight change I've to an already published issue is having the Piranha forgive Otterman in the final part of "All Blood Things...: The Sword Of Wisdom." That specific interesting story change was ALSO done to service "Lights Out".

Interestingly, this "fix" was done to service a story point in The Terran Wars. For reasons that will be made clear later on, William Shakespeare never took off in The Un-Iverse.

UnComix Tales: Howler "Borns"
This one is a little upsetting.
Nattyed "Behind The Bruises: Unkie Natty's Wacky Funhouse".
Rereading this story made me sick to my stomach. Not just because of the name. But the subject matter is extremely upsetting. I will argue since it's a comedy it's the most upsetting story in The Un-Iverse. Usually shit like this is NOT played for laughs.
Honestly as upset as it made me it's an extremely biting satire of kids show creators being secret scumbags. The shots taken at John Kricfalusi, Bill Cosby, and Dan Schneider by all rights should date the story. But it still feels relevant to me. It one of the most pointed and cynical satires about what current society tolerates in the name of the almighty dollar. If anything it feels even MORE topical now.
Excuse me while I take a shower.

Gilda And Meek "The Otterman Cometh Back"
"This Is Why We Don't Do This" has been DeMattyfied, Nattyfied, and ratified! Two down!
Honestly, switching Unkie Matty's name was one of the MAJOR impetuses for the Site Clean-Up to begin with. So do me a favor. If you can stomach it, reread the story a little, even if you have to skim so as not to puke.
As personally as important as that change is to me, does it make the worst story in the entire Un-Iverse even a LITTLE bit better? Nope.
But that's sort of the point. The less ties my own name has to the worst portion of the saga, the better. The bylines are embarrassing enough.

This one's interesting. There was a typo saying "Should Bernadette and Meek being worried" that I wanted to change to "Should Bernadette and Meek BE worried". I did, but while I was there I found the Narrator's prose there clunky and imprecise. Besides fixing the typo I clarified some of the rest of the dialogue a bit too.

The Pontue Legacy "Part Six: The Promise" (Un-Iverse #14)
Page 33 Panel 3. I need to explain this one. Because I am sure most readers will find the replacement a trade down. But instead of the Narrator saying Henry kicked every square inch of their poop blasters, I changed it to him kicking every square inch of their asses.
I know. MUCH less funny, and the old line is unique for The Un-Iverse, so trading it for something generic makes it unforgivable.
But the reason I used the line was misguided. I softened the language in the earlier issues to make the profanity later on land harder. I was TOO cautious here. And even if it's a delightful moment for the Narrator, it's supposed to be HENRY'S Big Fucking Moment. And you are paying more attention to the Narrator than to Henry. The line also hits the ear wrong in a moment I want to be a real crowdpleaser.
The worst part about this change for people who liked the old clumsy line? It's changed. For good. Unlike any Special Edition I can cook up it's vanished from both the artwork and the site. For good. I hear Un-Iverse purists' laments. But that moment isn't what it should be with that old line in place.
UnComix One-Shots: The Humans
Changed the title of the Narf-Narf And Chirp story from "Ocean's 2 Or A Bird In Heat" to "Ocean's 3 Or A Bird In Heat". I miscounted. Sue me.
UnComix One-Shots: The Piranha
Changed the title of the Stella Stickyfingers story from "Spike Cheats At Kitten Poker" to "Stella Cheats At Kitten Poker". As far as references to Buffy The Vampire Slayer go, the first title is baller. As an accurate description of the story? Not so much.

UnComix Tales: The Humans: The Epic Series Finale "All Loose Ends..." Oh, jeez, this one bugged the crap out me. In TWO cases on page 9 I put Narrator boxes first around Davy's dialogue in Panel 1, then Norma's dialogue in Panel 4. It hasn't been on the site for very long but it still drove me bug-poopy!
