9. Lace Doilies "47%" (Un-Iverse #65)

Rating: PG-13. Strong language, bloody violence and gore, frightening themes, adult themes, discussion of rape, innuendo.

Author's Note for Lace Doilies #9 "47%" (Un-Iverse #65)

I wrote and drew the entire issue in under 24 hours. There are stories there. For later. Check the Linear Notes when the saga is finished.

Like "I Beg You Pardon", "47%" is one of my favorite story titles in The Un-Iverse. It only makes sense in hindsight. And maybe the number in reality doesn't have anything to do with anything in the story but that specific joke. But that specific joke means the story is pretty much ENTIRELY about the number, which is probably why the Narrator is as agitated as he is.

I mentioned in the Author Notes to the first issue of Lace Doilies, that once Meek looks into the camera and says, "There were no outward signs," Donna Demented has essentially filled her entire purpose. I think when Angela here reveals the "Insta-poll" (a thing that doesn't really exist in our world) of Vic Puff's approval rating after all that being 47%, it can be argued Vic has served his entire purpose as well.

What do these two defining moments have in common? Angela Feline was greatly involved in both of them. That's actually a coincidence, but considering the trajectory of Angela's upcoming arc, maybe it's not.

As the issue was put to paper I realized the murder of the Fox New Producer was too messy. Not too gruesome, that's on-brand for the franchise. But it was committed openly by the President of the United States, when people actually knew where he was and what his schedule was. Threats are one thing. Getting covered in the dude's blood and brains is a HUGE mess, plotwise, especially for such a public figure under the microscope. Donna Demented can commit murders like this openly and get away with it. The U.S. President? I am skeptical

I was gonna add a line to Randall ordering Phelps to "clean up this mess," but I like that I don't even give the reader THAT much of an explanation as to how Randall is possibly not on the hook for this. I want the fact that he's on the news later in the day, perfectly rational and presentable, to drive the reader a bit crazy. How did he get away with it? Dude must have called the fucking Wolf!

Next Issue: F.I.S.H. #10 "Deep Space Swine" (Un-Iverse #66)
