Author's Note for Gilda And Meek #27 "All Blood Things...: Step One: What Ben Franklin Said" (Un-Iverse #41)

I have made some outlines to future issues I think are even better than this one, but as of this note, this specific issue is my favorite so far. And it still is with nearly 60 issues done.

I just went for fucking broke. Instead shying away from concentration camp parallels due to poor taste, I played them up. Gilda and Mitch's confrontation is the first place it is put into the reader's head the correct notion that the b.s. detector is stunting her growth as a person somewhat, and overrelying on it makes things worse. It also suggests the alienation it makes Gilda feel from people who probably don't deserve it is a huge drawback and probably the actual reason Gilda is as prickly as she is. It also lets us know that even though Gilda had an unhappy childhood, the actual person in her family causing the grief and conflict was HER. And it always was.

The tie-ins to "The Apple" were planned WAY ahead of time and it works and plays VERY well. I am pleased.

Revealing Augatha was the Otteress was over 20 years in the making. That was the intention behind the character (the Otteress) when I created her as a teenager and I FINALLY got far enough along in the story to reveal the truth and pay it off. It feels rewarding to share that secret with the reader.

Next Issue: Gilda and Meek #28 "All Blood Things...: Step Two: Marker" (Un-Iverse #42)
