18. Gilda And Meek "Warlocks: Beyond Reality: Part Four: The Three Deaths" (Un-Iverse #30)

Rating: PG-13. Strong bloody violence, drug use and overdose, and disturbing depiction of torture.

Author's Note for Gilda And Meek #18 "Warlocks: Beyond Reality: Part Four: The Three Deaths" (Un-Iverse #30)

Best cliffhanger ever. It's hilarious and infuriating in equal measure. Part of you is cheering Meek on and the other part is simply appalled. And both of those feelings are right and valid.

I think the thing I like most about the cliffhanger, is that it's obvious it couldn't end any other way. The reader is made uncomfortable by the fact that Meek and Augatha are about to kiss. And Meek shoved her off the cliff instead to cast the die and make sure THAT didn't happen. Why? Because you KNOW Gilda would have found out later, and God knows how judgmental Gilda is about shit like that, and how much shade she would have given him over it. He never would have heard the end of it. And not good-natured jokes either. She'd be legit pissed and shaming him nonstop for weeks over it. He pushed Augatha off the cliff instead to simplify matters entirely. And honestly, that being the reason he does it makes him a total bastard. My character surrogate, ladies and gentlemen! He sucks.

Gilda putting away the Dark Idol before it messes with her head is why both The Un-Iverse and its characters are awesome. You NEVER see that. And in the SAME damn issue Meek walks away from the Soundbreeze tree because people are responsible for their own actions. I love this story and these characters, and I love telling it.
